Multiple explosions rocked Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine as Russia launched a series of air strikes, putting the entire nation on high alert. The attack, which began at 05:00 local time, targeted the capital city, with the Ukrainian military engaging in defense efforts.
Despite the onslaught, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage. Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, stated that around a dozen Russian missiles were intercepted over the capital and its surrounding areas.
Lviv, a region bordering Poland, also came under attack, with Polish airspace breached by a cruise missile. Andriy Sadovyi, mayor of Lviv, revealed that while the city itself remained unscathed, critical infrastructure in the region was targeted.
Ukraine had been placed on nationwide alert prior to the attacks, warning of possible missile launches from Russian bombers. Poland confirmed the violation of its airspace by one such missile.
In response to the strikes, residents of Kyiv sought refuge in metro stations, while Moscow remained silent on the matter. Meanwhile, in annexed Crimea, Russian forces reportedly shot down Ukrainian missiles over the port city of Sevastopol, resulting in damage to property and injuries.
Despite the ongoing conflict, the historical tensions between Ukraine and Russia continue to fuel this latest escalation of violence. The international community closely monitors the situation as diplomatic efforts seek to resolve the crisis peacefully.
