Dr. Erdal Ozkan, a Professor at The Ohio State University, is leading research to optimize spray tip selection for better coverage and reduced drift. By choosing the right spray tip, Dr. Ozkan aims to improve the efficiency of pesticide applications while addressing disease and insect pressure in the lower part of the canopy.

Additionally, Dr. Sami Khanal, an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University, is exploring the use of UAV-based remote sensing technology to assess soybean defoliation by insects and evaluate different sensors mounted on drones. This technology can save time and money while protecting crop yields.

Remote sensing technologies, such as satellites and drones, are also being utilized to monitor cover crop Health and maximize cereal rye biomass for improved soil health and agricultural productivity. Dr. Khanal is working on developing models that can accurately estimate cover crop biomass and nutrient composition through satellite and drone imagery.
