St. Augustine triumphs over New York team

St. Augustine High School’s boys basketball team continues to impress with their teamwork and determination, despite lacking a superstar player. Coach Mike Haupt attributes their success to the blue-collar work ethic and unity of the players. The team recently secured a victory against St. Francis Prep of Freshmeadows, N.Y., in the quarterfinals of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic, with standout performances from senior Ian de la Rosa and sophomore Jaden Bailes.

The Saints, who are ranked No. 3 in San Diego and No. 17 in California, have a strong track record as the back-to-back CIF San Diego Section Open Division champions, and their recent win propels them into the semifinals.

Senior Ian de la Rosa, who scored 26 points and made eight rebounds, emphasized the team’s focus on collective success rather than individual achievements. Additionally, sophomore Jaden Bailes contributed significantly to the win with 26 points, including five 3-pointers.

The team’s point guard, Lolo Rudolph, played a vital role in setting up open shots for his teammates, while players Manny Cortez and Isaiah Hasten also made valuable contributions to secure the victory.

St. Augustine High School’s basketball team has demonstrated their resilience and skill in various tournaments, including their previous successful performance at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. Despite only two losses this season, the team remains focused on their ultimate goal of winning the championship.

Looking ahead, the Saints are determined to continue their winning streak as they prepare for the playoffs in March.

Historically, St. Augustine High School has a strong tradition of athletic excellence, particularly in basketball. The team’s recent success adds to the school’s legacy of producing talented and dedicated athletes.

In conclusion, the St. Augustine High boys basketball team’s consistent victories and collaborative spirit make them a formidable contender as they aim for championship glory. Their dedication and unwavering teamwork have solidified their position as one of the top high school basketball teams in California.
