Migrant families gather in fellowship at Ss. Genevieve and Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Parish

The Ss. Genevieve and Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Parish recently held its first Christmas event for migrants and families in need. Barbara Maldonado, a parishioner and organizer of the event, shared her wish to bring smiles to the faces of those who have been aided by the church. The event, which included a holiday meal, carnival games, presents, and sweets, was made possible by generous donations from church supporters.

The church, located in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood of Chicago, has a ministry specifically designed to assist migrants, many of whom have been helped by the church for months. Nancy Chiluisa, a beneficiary of the church’s aid, expressed her gratitude for the support she and her family have received after seeking refuge in the United States.

Nancy Hernandez, a volunteer at the event, emphasized the importance of helping those in need, regardless of their background. She shared her experience of celebrating Thanksgiving with Chiluisa’s family, demonstrating the unity and compassion present in the community.

Many attendees expressed their gratitude for the support and kindness they have received from the church and its members. Dubisay Gonzalez, a native of Venezuela, highlighted the value of coming together to celebrate Christmas, despite differences in traditions.
