“18 Items on the Agenda for 2024: A Commentary by Dan Rodricks”

In this final column of 2023, we look ahead to 17 things we’d like to know, see, do, or hear in the coming year, as well as one thing we definitely won’t be doing. From huge television production vans parked in Camden Yards for the World Series to continued progress against gun violence in Baltimore, there are many things we hope to see in 2023. We also hope to hear the voice of Michael Bloomberg pledging to give $1 billion to Baltimore Community Lending for the renovation of vacant houses, and that Netflix or Amazon will pick up the rights to “Flee North,” a book about a Maryland-born freed slave and abolitionist.

On the other hand, there are also things we’d like to know, such as why the widening of Interstate 95 between White March and Fallston was necessary, and why some Americans continue to vote against their own interests. Additionally, we hope to do things like bake a large and delicious timpano, organize an investigative taco crawl through Fells Point, and take a First Day Hike in Baltimore’s Leakin Park.

It remains to be seen what 2023 will bring, but there are many things to look forward to and even more to hope for.
