Bitter Cold Conditions Ease, But Another Arctic Blast on the Horizon

A tragic storm in Portland, Oregon has resulted in the deaths of two adults and a teenager after a tree branch brought down a live power line, which fell onto their SUV. According to the city’s fire department, the three individuals were electrocuted after they exited the vehicle after it was struck by the live wire. An infant who was in the car was rescued by a passerby and suffered no harm from the incident.

Similarly, a horrifying accident in Scranton, Pennsylvania resulted in the deaths of five people who were struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 81. After a minivan lost control and hit a median, four individuals exited the van along with a person from a separate car. Unfortunately, they were all hit by the passing tractor-trailer.

In other news, the cold winter weather is impacting various areas of the United States, including Buffalo, New York, where a severe snowstorm has led to several deaths. Sea creatures, such as sea turtles, are also suffering due to the extreme conditions, and rescue organizations are making efforts to provide shelter for animals during the cold snap. Furthermore, a man in Tennessee has died after falling through a skylight while attempting to remove snow from his roof. In Mississippi, two deaths have been confirmed due to extreme cold, and in Florida, volunteers are racing to find indoor shelters for dogs to protect them from the freezing temperatures. Finally, satellite images are showing the movement of a massive winter storm dumping snow and frozen rain onto the Pacific and the interior Northwest, as it continues moving eastward.
