The transformation of a Staten Island Ferry into an Entertainment venue is moving forward with plans from Staten Island natives Pete Davidson and Colin Jost. The project, announced two years ago, involves converting the old John F. Kennedy ferryboat into a space with a $34 million budget and a floor plan of 65,000 square feet. Renderings show a top deck with patio tables, hotel rooms with sundecks, and two nightclubs on a lower level. Renowned architect Ron Castellano is behind the design, with the boat set to feature two restaurants and six bars, evoking the style of the mid-1960s when the ferry was built.
Jost and Davidson are actively involved in the project, providing input and overseeing the development of the ferryboat. The vessel, purchased for $280,100, could potentially dock in various cities along the Eastern seaboard. Construction is in progress, with a timeline for completion still to be determined.
Before its retirement in August 2021, the John F. Kennedy ferry served as the oldest boat in the Staten Island Ferry’s active fleet. Purchased at an online auction by Davidson, Jost, and Paul Italia, the ferry had to be decommissioned due to mechanical issues and was reportedly infested with cockroaches and asbestos.
