Broadened omnibus health services bill passes second reading – Unicameral Update

An expanded omnibus Health services bill, including four additional measures, was approved by the Health and Human Services Committee on March 15. Sponsored by Blair Senator Ben Hansen, LB1215 now encompasses the provisions of numerous bills considered during this session.

Bellevue Senator Carol Blood successfully added two provisions to the bill during select file. The first, LB1373, would establish the Dietitian Licensure Compact in Nebraska, streamlining the licensing process for dietitians across multiple states. Blood’s second amendment, adding LB823, would adopt the Physician Assistant Licensure Compact, easing the transition for out-of-state physician assistants practicing in Nebraska.

Omaha Senator Jen Day introduced an amendment to enhance access to breastfeeding services for Medicaid recipients in Nebraska. LB1106 would require Medicaid to cover a minimum of 10 lactation consultations and increase provider rates, while LB1107 would ensure Medicaid coverage for electric breast pumps for pregnant women by 2025.

The amendments were met with overwhelming support and LB1215 advanced to final reading without opposition. This comprehensive health services bill aims to improve healthcare access and streamline licensing processes, benefiting both providers and patients alike.
