The Union Walk building in downtown Ogden, which was meant to be an urban apartment building with ground floor retail space, has faced significant challenges and public safety concerns throughout its development. Construction was halted in March 2023 due to unsafe lumber and structural problems, ultimately leading to the project’s general contractor, Makers Line, going out of Business. As a result, the developer, Summa Terra Ventures, has applied for a demolition permit to tear down the unfinished five-story building.
Despite attempts to appeal the order to stop work and address the structural deficiencies, Summa Terra ultimately chose to demolish the building, citing the need for public safety and immediate action. Legal implications have also arisen, with at least two lawsuits tied to the project.
Given the troubled history of Union Walk, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the site. While the hope is for the space to be developed properly, new permit applications, contractors, and design plans will be necessary to move forward.
