“Baltimore Braces for Arctic Front and Chance of Snow Squalls on Frigid Sunday”
Residents of Baltimore woke up to an unseasonably cold Sunday, with temperatures plummeting at least 20 degrees compared to the previous day. The city is bracing for the arrival of an Arctic front, which could bring with it a line of snow squalls by midday. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory in effect until 5 p.m., with peak wind gusts expected to reach 50 mph.
Throughout the day, Baltimoreans can expect blustery and frigid conditions, with high temperatures only reaching the mid-40s but “Feels Like” temperatures in the 30s. Despite a mix of sun and clouds, the possibility of snow squalls looms, though the latest model data suggests the majority of the snow will stay to the north of the city. Regardless, the arrival of the Arctic front is expected to bring gusty winds and reinforced cold, potentially reducing visibility and leaving a quick dusting of snow.
As night falls, Baltimore can anticipate an increase in cloud cover, with overnight lows dropping to the low 20s and peak wind gusts of up to 20 mph.
Looking ahead to Monday, also observed as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the city can expect a few more clouds and continued cold with high temperatures only reaching the low 30s. There is a slight chance of flurries, especially to the south of Baltimore.
By Monday night, mostly cloudy skies are predicted with the potential for accumulating snow, particularly after 8 p.m., with overnight lows in the mid to upper 20s.
The historic city of Baltimore has not experienced significant snowfall in quite some time, making the potential for light accumulation on Monday night through Tuesday—estimated at 1-3 inches—particularly noteworthy. The development of this system hinges on the presence of abundant cold air, and while models are still working out uncertainty, it’s a notably exciting prospect for locals.
