Increased Lawsuits Filed Against Makers Line, Some Dismissed

The Salt Lake City contractor, Makers Line, is facing more than $3 million in damages from 18 lawsuits. However, the property owners of three of the associated properties have settled some of their debts, bringing Makers Line’s potential liability down to roughly $2.3 million. The suits filed by subcontractor LG Concrete seeking a combined $346,000 in damages have been dismissed after the property owners settled the debts directly. Two new lawsuits were filed in mid-December by subcontractors seeking a combined $62,000 for unpaid projects in Ogden and Clearfield.

Makers Line quickly made a name for itself as a developer in 2020 when it transformed an old building in the Granary District into a hip new office building, INDUSTRY SLC. The general contractor was one of several under the umbrella of Q Factor, owned by married couple Jason and Ellen Winkler.

The fate of Makers Line’s unfinished projects remains uncertain, as it is attached to at least eight ongoing projects in Salt Lake City and more than a dozen across the Wasatch Front. The company is no longer doing Business, according to court documents.

With ongoing legal battles and outstanding liabilities, Makers Line’s future in the construction industry is unclear.
