Lakewood Health System to Begin Construction on New Cancer Center in 2024
The Lakewood Health System has announced its plans to move forward with the construction of the Lakewood Cancer Center, with the groundbreaking set for spring of 2024 and completion expected in the summer of 2025. The decision comes as a result of the significant growth in the system’s oncology team and services since 2022.
The expansion of provider coverage has created the need for additional space, prompting the construction of the 19,270 square foot cancer center. This new facility will be located off the southwest corner of Lakewood’s Staples clinic and will feature a dedicated reception and waiting area, 14 infusion bays, 10 medical oncology and two radiation oncology exam rooms, a procedure room, in-house PET/CT, and a linear accelerator for radiation treatments. Additionally, oncology case managers will be situated within the new space for easy patient access.
Dr. Christine Albrecht, Lakewood’s Chief Medical Officer, expressed her excitement for the project, emphasizing the goal of providing patients with a more personalized approach to their care. The new cancer center will not only meet the growing needs of patients but will also allow for the addition of new services previously unavailable in the area.
