Steubenville Organizations Seek Funds from County Health Department’s Aging Grant
Two organizations requested funding from the Jefferson County Board of Health on Tuesday, seeking a portion of the $306,781 Healthy Aging Grant awarded to the county health department in November. Trinity Health System’s Prime Time Office on Aging and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program are the latest to seek funds from the grant following a request for funding by Our Place senior activity center in December.
Trinity Health System is seeking $121,000 of the grant funds to develop and provide geriatric-specific telemedicine services at their Lovers Lane activities center. This new service aims to bring distant health care providers to seniors at the center through video calls, saving them from having to travel for medical care. The Prime Time center already serves the fifth-largest senior population in Ohio and is in need of a telemedicine program to accommodate the increasing senior population.
Additionally, the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program is seeking $10,000 in funding to expand its reach and actively recruit more seniors for service opportunities with local nonprofits.
The health department also provided updates on public health issues at the site of a train derailment near Toronto, the issuance of nuisance cases, and the acquisition of diapers for a community diaper bank.
Historic Background:
Jefferson County is home to a large and growing senior population, with increasing demand for services and programs that cater to the needs of older adults. The Healthy Aging Grant aims to address these needs by providing funding for initiatives that enhance the health and well-being of seniors in the county. The requests for funding from Prime Time Office on Aging and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program reflect the importance of developing innovative solutions to support the aging population in the area.
In conclusion, the board’s approval of funding requests for these organizations highlights the commitment to improving the quality of life for seniors in Jefferson County through targeted and innovative programs and services.
