Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals Honors Barry Keoghan with Man of the Year Award
In a lighthearted and entertaining ceremony, Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals awarded actor Barry Keoghan with the prestigious 2024 Man of the Year Award. Keoghan is best known for his roles in acclaimed films such as “Dunkirk,” “The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” “Eternals,” and “The Banshees of Inisherin.” The ceremony took place in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Keoghan was presented with a pudding pot and invited to attend a performance of Hasty Pudding’s 175th production, titled “Heist Heist Baby!”
During the ceremony, Keoghan was humorously pressed into a boxing match with a character dubbed “Mr. Irish Potato Famine,” and also participated in an awkward romantic comedy scene, concluding with a comedic face-plant into a dish of spaghetti.
Keoghan, who hails from Ireland, engaged the audience with stories from his career, including humorous anecdotes about his role in “The Eternals,” a film featuring immortal beings. He confessed that his favorite Avenger was the Hulk, but changed it to Iron Man when he briefly thought Robert Downey Jr., the actor who portrays Iron Man, was in the audience.
After the roast, Keoghan was presented with a unique “BAFTUB” award, which he humorously climbed into. The event culminated in Keoghan being adorned with a bra adorned with cartons of Morton Salt and cardboard flames.
Reflecting on the honor, Keoghan shared his feelings with reporters, expressing his gratitude for being presented with the Man of the Year Award and being included in the same category as other esteemed actors who have received this accolade.
Established in 1844, Hasty Pudding Theatricals has a rich history and is recognized as the third-oldest theater group in the world. The Man of the Year Award has been a tradition since 1967, with past recipients including prominent figures such as Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, and Samuel L. Jackson.
