Colorado authorities arrest funeral home owner Miles Harford for abuse of corpse; released on PR bond

The owner of a funeral home in Denver, Mile Harford, has been arrested on charges including abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft. Harford was taken into custody by Englewood police on Thursday night. He is currently being held at the Arapahoe County Detention Center, not for the warrants out of Denver, but for a failure to appear in a civil matter unrelated to the investigation.

Harford, 33, became the focus of an investigation after the discovery of human remains in a hearse at a Denver home, along with the cremated remains of at least 30 individuals on February 6. The investigation led authorities to realize that Harford owned Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, which had been closed since September 2022.

The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office and Denver Police Department were called to the home Harford was renting in Denver after boxes of cremains were found in a crawlspace. An inoperable hearse parked in the backyard contained the body of a deceased female and additional cremains. The deceased woman was identified as Christina Rosales, a 63-year-old who passed away in August 2022.

In a separate incident last fall, a funeral home in Penrose, Colorado, made headlines when 190 improperly stored bodies were discovered. The owners, Jon and Carie Hallford, were arrested on charges including abuse of a corpse, theft, money laundering, and forgery. This case is unrelated to Harford’s investigation in Denver.

Investigators are urging clients of Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services who have concerns or irregularities about the services provided to contact the Denver Police Major Crimes Division. If convicted, Harford faces up to 3 years in jail for the charges against him.

For more information on this case or to report any related concerns, individuals can contact the hotline set up by the Denver Police Department. This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of conducting thorough research before engaging with funeral services.
