The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a mysterious object found by commercial fishermen off the coast of Alaska. The object, suspected to be a surveillance balloon, will be analyzed at the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia. The fishermen shared photos of the object with law enforcement, prompting the FBI to launch further investigation.

This incident brings to light the existence of high-altitude surveillance balloons, which gained attention last year when a Chinese spy balloon crossed US airspace. The US identified the balloon as part of a Chinese military surveillance program. Following the incident, the Biden administration took action to enhance radar systems to detect similar objects in the future.

The Pentagon confirmed that the Chinese surveillance balloon transmitted data back to China using an American internet service provider. However, it did not actively collect intelligence during its flight over the US. The FBI is currently working with partners to recover the debris found off the Alaskan coast.

The recent discovery has reignited concerns about foreign surveillance activities in US airspace. Stay updated on this developing story as more information becomes available.
