Bridget Ziegler Attends Governor DeSantis’ Disney World Oversight Board Meeting
After a high-profile sex scandal involving her and her husband, Bridget Ziegler attended her first in-person meeting of Governor Ron DeSantis’ Disney World oversight board. This scandal made national headlines and cost her husband his job as Florida’s GOP chairperson.
During the meeting, when asked about the speculation surrounding her resignation from the Disney board, Ziegler simply stated, “I’m here.” Despite calls for her resignation from both the Disney and school boards, Ziegler remains a member of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s Board of Supervisors.
Ziegler, a Sarasota resident, was appointed by DeSantis as part of his conflict with Disney. She is also a co-founder of the conservative education group Moms for Liberty and serves on the Sarasota County School Board.
Her husband, Christian Ziegler, was ousted as chairperson of the Florida Republican Party amid a police investigation into rape allegations. However, Sarasota police have since cleared him of rape, concluding that a cellphone video showed the sexual encounter was likely consensual. Nevertheless, police recommended prosecutors charge Ziegler with illegally recording the encounter without the woman’s knowledge.
Bridget Ziegler herself revealed during the investigation that she had participated in a one-time, three-way sexual encounter with her husband and the woman accusing him of rape about a year ago.
Ziegler has championed the controversial Parental Rights in Education bill, which limits classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity. The passage of this law, commonly referred to as the Don’t Say Gay bill, sparked DeSantis’ dispute with Disney after the corporation vowed to get it repealed.
Despite facing public scrutiny and calls for resignation, Ziegler’s term on the board runs through February 2025. The position is unpaid, but board members are eligible to recoup travel expenses.
In the past, another board member, Michael Sasso, resigned just a few months after being appointed to the board. His resignation came shortly before DeSantis named his wife, Meredith Sasso, to the Florida Supreme Court.
This controversial situation raises questions about the intersection of Politics, personal conduct, and public service. As the story continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how it will impact Ziegler’s role on the Disney board and her public standing.
