Ofcom to look into GB News segment with Rishi Sunak

Ofcom is investigating a GB News program featuring a Q&A session with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for impartiality. The program, “People’s Forum: The Prime Minister,” aired on 12 February and allowed members of the public to question Sunak on various issues. The regulator received around 500 complaints about the program, prompting an investigation into potential breaches of due impartiality requirements. GB News has also faced criticism for having political figures like Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lee Anderson present programs, leading to concerns about the network’s impartiality.

GB News, a right-leaning network founded in 2021 to challenge established British news providers, has been the subject of several Ofcom investigations related to impartiality. Former Sky News Australia CEO Angelos Frangopoulos leads the channel, which has also employed politicians like Esther McVey and Philip Davies as presenters.

The investigation into the “People’s Forum: The Prime Minister” program is the latest in a series of controversies for GB News, which has sought to provide an alternative to traditional news sources in the UK. The findings of the Ofcom investigation will be eagerly awaited amid ongoing scrutiny of the network’s programming and its approach to balanced reporting.
