After merger, Domantas Sabonis continues double-double streak

SACRAMENTO – Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis made history once again on Monday night, recording his 54th consecutive double-double to set a new post-merger record in the NBA. Sabonis surpassed Kevin Love’s 53-game streak from the 2010-11 season during the Kings’ victory over the Orlando Magic.

The Lithuanian big man has now etched his name alongside basketball legends with his impressive feat. Only four players in NBA history have achieved longer consecutive double-double streaks than Sabonis: Wilt Chamberlain (7 times), Elvin Hayes (2 times), Elgin Baylor, and Walt Bellamy.

Sabonis, who has played in all 70 of Sacramento’s games this season, has the opportunity to extend his streak to 65 games. This would place him among the top nine longest streaks of all time, trailing only Chamberlain, Bellamy, and Baylor.

Currently averaging 20.0 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game for the season, Sabonis is on pace to join Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to average 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists for an entire season.

During his remarkable streak, Sabonis has elevated his game even further, averaging 20.4 points, 14.4 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game with 23 triple-doubles over the past 53 games.

As Sabonis continues to rewrite the record books, the Sacramento Kings find themselves in a tight battle for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. With the No. 6 Suns, No. 7 Kings, and No. 8 Mavericks separated by just a half-game, every game down the stretch is crucial.

Looking ahead, the Kings have key matchups against playoff contenders, including a showdown with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night and a pivotal game against the Phoenix Suns on April 12. With a challenging schedule looming, Sacramento will rely on Sabonis to deliver more double-doubles as they aim for back-to-back playoff appearances.

In conclusion, Sabonis’ historic streak highlights his impact on the Kings and the league as a whole, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the regular season. Subscribe to our Starting 5 Newsletter for daily NBA updates and insights.
