A snowstorm is expected to hit Denver and the surrounding areas throughout the day, with heavy snow bands moving in from the mountains to the Front Range. Denver is likely to see between two and three inches of snow, with the highest snowfall expected south of the city. The National Weather Service in Boulder has issued a winter weather advisory for western Jefferson and much of Douglas counties, with forecasters warning of slick road conditions and temperatures dropping into the teens.
In addition to the snow, cold temperatures are also a concern, with Denver activating its cold weather shelter plan for Friday and Saturday nights. Two former hotels, New Directions and the former Doubletree Hotel, will be open for shelter, along with other locations in the city.
Denver has a history of snowstorms, with some notable ones including the Christmas Eve snowstorm of 1982, which brought over 21 inches of snow to the city.
