CNN to host GOP presidential debates in Iowa, New Hampshire

The 2024 Republican presidential primary debates have been scheduled in Iowa and New Hampshire in January, leading up to each state’s GOP nominating contest. CNN will host a Jan. 10 debate at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, five days before the state’s first-in-the-nation caucuses, and a Jan. 21 debate at St. Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire, two days before that state’s leadoff primary. The announcement came a day after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie met for the fourth debate of the 2024 primary season. Participants will need to meet strict polling qualifications to take part in the debates, with a 10% polling threshold in the respective states. The qualifying window for the Iowa debate closes on Jan. 2, and it’s Jan. 16 for the New Hampshire debate.

Historically, primary debates have played a crucial role in the selection of party nominees for presidential elections. They provide candidates with an opportunity to present their policies and ideas to voters, helping shape public opinion and potentially influencing the outcome of the primaries. The 2024 Republican primary debates are expected to be highly competitive, with a diverse field of candidates vying for the nomination.

As the primary season progresses, the debates will offer voters valuable insights into the positions and personalities of the candidates, ultimately shaping the direction of the Republican Party and its platform for the 2024 presidential Election.
