Civil Fraud Trial Results in Trump Being Ordered to Pay Nearly $355 Million

A two-year ban on Donald Trump’s adult sons has left the leadership of the Trump Organization in question. The ban, imposed by Judge Arthur Engoron, prohibits Trump’s sons from serving as executives in New York for two years. This development comes as the family-run real estate company grapples with the fallout from the 2022 sale of Trump’s hotel at the Old Post Office building in Washington DC.

Since 2017, Trump’s eldest sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, have been at the helm of the Trump Organization. However, the company has also faced significant upheaval with the departure of key executives, including the chief financial officer and controller positions vacated by Allen Weisselberg and Jeff McConney.

Judge Engoron’s ruling stems from allegations of fraudulent financial practices within the Trump Organization. The judge found Trump’s sons liable for issuing false financial statements, falsifying Business records, and conspiracy claims. During the trial, Engoron raised questions about the knowledge of the Trump sons regarding the fraudulent activities within the company.

Eric and Donald Trump Jr. were ordered to pay more than $4 million in disgorgement, or “ill-gotten” profits, from the sale of Trump’s hotel. The judge also criticized Ivanka Trump’s trial testimony, calling it “suspect,” although she was dismissed as a defendant in the case by an appeals court ahead of the trial.

The ruling has raised concerns about the future of the Trump Organization and its leadership. As the company navigates the two-year ban and the departure of key executives, the Trump sons are faced with the task of redefining the direction of the family business.

This news comes amid ongoing legal and financial challenges for the Trump family following the end of Donald Trump’s presidential term. It underscores the complex and far-reaching implications of political families’ involvement in business enterprises. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly shape the future of the Trump Organization and its role in the business landscape.
