Broadway Babies, Singing Show Tunes for Seniors

Broadway Stars Bring the Magic to an Upper East Side Senior Center

Former Little Michael from Broadway’s “MJ,” Corey J, donned a classic black ensemble and wowed about 50 residents at an Upper East Side senior center with his rendition of the Jackson 5 hit “I Want You Back.” This special performance was part of a monthly series of events organized by the senior director of resident experience, Evan Rossi, and the events company Broadway Plus.

The event featured young rising stars, including Aria Kane, a recent Young Anna in the North American tour of “Frozen”; Benjamin Pajak, who portrayed Winthrop Paroo in “The Music Man”; and Jillian Paige Platero, one of two actresses playing Young Nala in “The Lion King.” The children showcased their talents by performing songs from their respective productions as well as answering questions from the audience.

For the seniors at Inspir Carnegie Hill, this concert was a breath of fresh air, offering them the opportunity to connect with the younger generation and be immersed in the joy of live performances. For retired Broadway actress Marilyn Snyder, it brought back memories of performing with fellow actors, while 83-year-old Adele Hartman found inspiration for her aspiring actor grandson.

The children were equally thrilled to share their passion with an older audience. Corey J, who had previously performed in “MJ,” expressed his excitement at having the opportunity to connect with an older generation through a shared love for music and theater.

The event not only brought joy to the residents of the senior center but also served as a reminder of the power of live performances and the enduring impact of Broadway on people of all ages.
