AI Technology Improves Information Delivery to the Public

The broadcasting industry in Kuala Lumpur is embracing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) Technology to better cater to the diverse needs of today’s audiences. According to Broadcasting Department director-general Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman, AI technology is enabling the industry to deliver tailored narratives to various audience segments, moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach.

Suhaimi highlighted the importance of understanding the different backgrounds of audiences in order to effectively deliver information and foster a strong sense of unity within the country. By utilizing AI to analyze data and preferences, broadcasters can create content that resonates with their viewers on a deeper level.

At the recent Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2024 (DBS 2024) in Kuala Lumpur, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) showcased examples of AI technology in action, including AI-controlled avatars and teleprompters that enhance the efficiency of news delivery.

While some may have concerns about AI replacing human jobs in the future, Suhaimi reassured that AI is primarily used for repetitive tasks, allowing humans to focus on more strategic and creative aspects of broadcasting. For instance, in programs like Bintang RTM, AI can handle routine tasks like prize announcements, freeing up hosts to engage with viewers on a more engaging level.

The symposium served as a platform for broadcasting industry players from around the world to exchange experiences and insights on utilizing the latest technology to enhance performances, storytelling, news editing, and content creation.

As AI continues to revolutionize the broadcasting industry, it is clear that a combination of technological advancements and human ingenuity will shape the future of information delivery and storytelling. By leveraging AI capabilities, broadcasters can ensure that their content remains relevant and engaging in an increasingly diverse and dynamic media landscape.
