Food and Art Unite, a community event organized at Munson’s Food and Art gallery in downtown Utica, attracted a large crowd on Sunday afternoon. The event aimed to celebrate Utica’s diversity through a fusion of food, music, and art.
Sixteen vendors offered a wide variety of cuisines at the event, including Italian, Ecuadorian, Jamaican, Mexican, and Middle Eastern dishes. Island Breeze Flavor Restaurant Bar and Grill, a popular Jamaican eatery, was a standout, selling out of their jerk chicken and signature dish, Rasta pasta.
Sandra Gowe from Island Breeze expressed the importance of coming together to celebrate different cultures, stating that the event was a great opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to unite. Director of Marketing and Communications at Munson, Katherine Laube, highlighted the significance of the event in celebrating Utica’s multicultural population.
Food and Art Unite was a collaborative effort between 92.7 The Drive, 98.3 El Zorro Latino Radio, and Munson Museum of Art. Utica Royalties, an organization dedicated to nurturing youth talents, also performed at the event.
The event took place on March 10 from noon to 3 p.m. at Munson Museum of Art on Genesee Street. The ongoing exhibition, “Between Worlds: Stories of Artists and Migration,” will be on display at the museum until May 5.
