Bird-in-Hand Stage is gearing up to face logistical challenges as it prepares to open its musical production, “The Confession,” at the former Revere Tavern in Paradise. This move comes as their regular venue at the Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant & Smorgasbord is undergoing repairs following a recent fire.
Despite the challenges, the team at Bird-in-Hand is ready to tackle the task ahead. According to Melissa Brown, stage manager, the plan is to operate out of the Revere Tavern until at least June. The theater will have the same seating capacity of 145, but with a redesigned seating chart and set layout due to the different configuration of the temporary space.
One of the challenges faced at the Revere Tavern is the lack of backstage space, which limits the use of certain props and set pieces. Additionally, the stage at the Revere is carpeted, making it difficult to maneuver sets on wheels.
Director Monica DePaul explains that adjustments have also been made to accommodate the smaller stage and wing space at the Revere Tavern. Despite these challenges, the artistic team is embracing the historic charm of the tavern building, which adds to the overall experience for audience members.
The menu at the Revere Tavern will mirror that of Bird-in-Hand, providing guests with the same dining experience. The owners of the Revere Tavern graciously offered their space to the Bird-in-Hand team following the recent fire at their regular venue, showcasing solidarity and support within the community.
Overall, the team at Bird-in-Hand is grateful for the opportunity to continue offering quality Entertainment to their audience, even in the face of adversity. The historic setting of the Revere Tavern adds a unique element to the production, enriching the overall experience for both cast and audience members.
