NBC Bay Area reports on new community health center opening in Morgan Hill

An abandoned hospital in the South Bay has undergone a remarkable transformation to become the Valley Health Center Morgan Hill, set to open on Monday. The once dormant DePaul Health Center in Morgan Hill, now acquired by Santa Clara County, will provide essential healthcare services to underserved groups in the region.

Santa Clara County Executive, James Williams, described the old hospital as reminiscent of a scene from a movie, left abandoned mid-shift. However, with extensive renovations, the property has been revitalized into a state-of-the-art healthcare facility.

Valley Health Center Morgan Hill, part of the county health system, will offer a range of services including general surgery, primary care, radiology, urgent care, and pharmacy services. The center will operate seven days a week, providing much-needed healthcare access to families in south Santa Clara County.

The opening of VHC Morgan Hill marks a significant milestone in healthcare accessibility for the region. Santa Clara County Supervisor, Sylvia Arenas, emphasized the importance of the new center in saving lives and improving overall health outcomes for the community.

With an estimated 15,000 people expected to be treated annually at the facility, the Valley Health Center Morgan Hill, in conjunction with St. Louise Regional Hospital to the south, will play a crucial role in providing healthcare services to the residents of Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and South San Jose.

The transformation of the abandoned hospital into a thriving healthcare facility represents a significant achievement for the community and underscores the county’s commitment to improving health and well-being for all residents. The opening of Valley Health Center Morgan Hill signifies a new era of accessible and quality healthcare services in the South Bay, ensuring that every individual receives the care they deserve, regardless of their background or income level.
