Despite facing a devastating fire that destroyed their over 100-year-old building, a Meriden Business, Filipek’s, is keeping its Easter tradition alive by serving their famous smoked kielbasa out of a food truck this year. Co-owner Cindy Kenealy expressed gratitude for the support of friends and family in making it possible to continue the tradition.
Locals have been visiting Filipek’s on Easter for generations, with one resident mentioning their family’s tradition of coming since the 1960s. Even in the face of adversity, the community remains loyal to the beloved establishment. The food truck, located on Elm Street, has been open leading up to the holiday, serving customers daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Looking ahead, the owners have plans to rebuild and reopen after the Easter festivities. Kenealy is optimistic about the future and hopes to have the business back up and running in a couple of months. The Filipek family expresses their gratitude for the continued support from the community, recognizing the importance of tradition and family ties in their business.
