Grindstone Entertainment Acquires North American Rights to Crime Drama “Mob Cops”
Grindstone Entertainment has recently acquired the North American rights to the upcoming crime drama “Mob Cops.” Directed by Danny A. Abeckaser and written by Kosta Kondilopoulos, the film is based on true events in mobster crime lore. Set across the 1980s, ’90s, and 2005, the story follows a veteran detective on a quest for justice when the two dirtiest cops in NYPD history come to his attention.
The star-studded cast includes David Arquette, Kevin Connolly, Jeremy Luke, Joseph Russo, and more, with Abeckaser also producing through 2B Films. Additionally, Kyle Stefanski and Gusatvo Nascimento of Wild7Films are also on board as producers. The film’s executive producers are Eli Wise and Julian Brass.
Abeckaser expressed his excitement for the project, stating, “I’ve always been fascinated with dirty cop stories, and this one is the biggest in the history of the NYPD – so I was extremely intrigued to turn this into a feature film. Our incredible cast, producing team, and script bring this to life in a dynamic way for audiences.”
This is not Abeckaser’s first foray into the world of mob stories, having previously directed, starred in, and produced successful films such as “Mob Town” and “Inside Man.” His latest release, “The Engineer,” starring Emile Hirsch, debuted on Netflix and has been gaining worldwide attention.
The deal was brokered by Grindstone partner Stan Wertlieb and Abeckaser, with Grindstone being a subsidiary of Lionsgate. Stay tuned for more updates on the release date of “Mob Cops” in North America.
