Biden administration officials to speak at medical schools across the country on Match Day
On Friday, a group of Biden administration Health officials will be visiting various medical schools across the country to mark “Match Day” for medical students. They will be speaking about President Biden’s health care agenda, with a focus on addressing maternal health, medical racism, and the importance of investing in a diverse health care workforce.
Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra will be visiting a medical school in Washington, D.C., while other officials are scheduled to be at medical schools in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Nashville, Wisconsin, California, and North Carolina. Becerra’s remarks are set to highlight the administration’s efforts in these crucial areas.
The officials will also be present at three Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCUs). Becerra will visit Howard University’s School of Medicine, Carole Johnson will visit Meharry Medical College, and Antrell Tyson will visit Morehouse School of Medicine. Additionally, Angela Ramirez will be making a stop at Cherokee Nation, which is home to the nation’s first medical school on tribal land.
The focus of the officials’ remarks will be on Biden’s agenda to lower health care costs, including efforts to address prescription drug prices and health insurance. Biden has proposed extending Medicare’s $2,000 annual cap on out-of-pocket drug costs to those with commercial insurance, as well as implementing penalties on drugmakers who raise prices above inflation rates. He has also called on Congress to make permanent improvements to the Affordable Care Act, set to expire in 2025.
The Match Day event is significant as it marks the day when medical students learn of their residency program placements, a crucial step in their medical education journey. The administration officials’ presence and speeches are expected to provide guidance and insight into the Biden administration’s health care policies and initiatives.
