Local Baton Rouge organizations pledge backing for LSU’s proposed entertainment venue.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – The Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, and Visit Baton Rouge have come together to show their support for a proposed $300 million Entertainment and Sports center by the Tiger Athletic Foundation. Along with this project, they are also backing a makeover for the Raising Cane’s River Center.

The Metro Council of East Baton Rouge Parish is considering an ordinance to assist the Tiger Athletic Foundation in building an arena that would host LSU sports events, as well as music and entertainment events. This proposed arena is seen as a significant win for the community, bringing in talent and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

According to the ordinance, a competing facility in the region could hinder the TAF project, so restrictions would be placed on live music and entertainment events. These events would be limited to City-Parish property, including the River Center, once the LSU arena is constructed. The Mayor-President would also have the authority to create more space for conventions and build a main hotel near the River Center.

The proposed event venue ordinance is set for a hearing on March 13. Baton Rouge’s population has shown a strong interest in attending concerts and events, with a younger demographic, higher incomes among young professionals, and a large college student population. However, BRAC’s research indicates that the region is not meeting its potential in terms of large-scale entertainment compared to similar areas.

BRAC’s research also highlights the need for a makeover of the River Center to align with the grander vision of enhancing downtown Baton Rouge. Investing in multiple event facilities throughout the city will not only maximize community assets but also create world-class venues for conventions, meetings, concerts, and sporting events.

By collaborating with community leaders and economic development partners, Baton Rouge aims to create a ‘rising tide’ effect that will benefit everyone. As the city moves forward with strategic planning and investment, its progress is set to elevate the local economy and quality of life for all residents.
