Expansion of Baker Center of Excellence for Employee Ownership and Business Transformation’s reach

Montgomery County Community College’s Baker Center of Excellence for Employee Ownership and Business Transformation is expanding its reach beyond Montgomery to include more businesses across Pennsylvania and the region. The center, established in December 2020 with a $3 million gift from Ken Baker, president and CEO of NewAge Industries Inc., is now a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Center for Employee Ownership (PaCEO). This expansion aims to raise awareness of employee ownership and its advantages among businesses statewide.

The Baker Center was created to help county and regional employers understand and implement models of employer-employee partnerships, including employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). Ken Baker, whose generous gift led to the establishment of the center, expressed gratitude to Montgomery County Community College and emphasized the importance of expanding its impact across the state.

With the transfer of leadership and endowment to PaCEO, the Baker Center is now poised to broaden its reach beyond its original focus. Both organizations share a mission of promoting employee ownership, with PaCEO primarily focused on industry awareness and advocacy activities, while the Baker Center is focused on creating resources and building a community around employee ownership.

The addition of Executive Director Scott Moon in August 2021 further solidifies the Baker Center’s commitment to its mission. Ken Baker, a strong advocate for employee stock ownership plans, has been instrumental in the center’s development and serves as the chairman of the board of directors of PaCEO.

This expansion marks an important milestone in the promotion of employee ownership in Pennsylvania, with the Baker Center poised to make a significant impact on businesses across the state. As the center continues to evolve and grow, its mission remains clear: to advocate for and provide resources in support of the benefits of employee ownership.
