Chaminade Baseball Upsets Harvard-Westlake in Mission League Showdown

Chaminade’s baseball team caused a major upset in the Mission League race by defeating league leader Harvard-Westlake 4-2 on Tuesday. Carter Bennett of Chaminade led the charge with two hits in the game, contributing to the Eagles’ come-from-behind victory.

The Eagles, with a record of 12-4 overall and 8-3 in league play, handed Harvard-Westlake (13-2-1, 9-1-1) their first league defeat of the season. In the sixth inning, Chaminade managed to score three runs off Harvard-Westlake closer Bryce Rainer, with Jackson Tyler and Matt Churchill making key plays. Bennett’s performance was crucial to securing the win.

Junior left-hander Brady Ahn and relief pitcher Bryce Irvine delivered standout performances on the mound for Chaminade, keeping Harvard-Westlake’s offense in check.

In other notable high school baseball matchups, Orange Lutheran secured a 4-3 victory over Servite, while El Camino Real defeated Nogales (Arizona) 4-1 behind stellar pitching from Devin Gonor. La Mirada, Arcadia, Crescenta Valley, Millikan, and other teams also emerged victorious in their respective games.

On the softball front, Garden Grove Pacifica continued their unbeaten streak with a 5-0 win over Cypress, with Kaniya Bragg standing out with a home run. Orange Lutheran shut out Mater Dei 3-0, with Brianne Weiss impressing on the mound.
