Merlin Entertainments acquires Wheel at ICON Park and reverts to original name as Orlando Eye, reports Orlando Sentinel

Merlin Entertainments, the British group known for owning Legoland, has acquired The Wheel at ICON Park in Orlando, bringing the 400-foot-tall Ferris wheel back under their operation. Previously known as The Orlando Eye, the wheel originally operated by Merlin from 2015 to 2018 is now reunited with other Merlin properties at ICON Park including Madame Tussauds Orlando and Sea Life Aquarium Orlando.

The sale marks an important step in Merlin’s strategic approach to creating “mega-clusters” of attractions worldwide, with the London Eye in England being a similar example. This acquisition now makes The Eye the fifth Merlin attraction in Florida, joining Legoland Florida and the Peppa Pig Theme Park in Polk County.

Chris Jaskiewicz, president and CEO of ICON Park, expressed his pride in Merlin’s decision to expand their brands in Central Florida, recognizing the global appeal of The Eye and ICON Park as a destination. The history of The Eye has been eventful, with various name changes and incidents over the years, such as a power failure in 2022 and the closure of the Bullseye Blast game due to online criticism.

The iconic Ferris wheel offers visitors a unique experience with a 20-minute ride in one of its 30-passenger pods, featuring stunning views of Orlando. Ticket prices for adults start at $29.99, with packages including access to Madame Tussauds and Sea Life starting at $49.99. With a rich history and an exciting future under Merlin’s ownership, The Wheel at ICON Park continues to be a must-visit attraction for tourists and locals alike.
