Increased Traffic Expected in Downtown Tampa this Week

The city of Tampa is issuing a warning to visitors about expected heavy congestion this weekend due to a combination of spring break, St. Patrick’s Day, and various Entertainment events converging on downtown. From March 13-17, downtown visitors should be prepared for detours, congested roads, and limited parking spots.

One of the highlighted events is the River O’ Green Fest on Saturday, where the Hillsborough River will be dyed a vibrant emerald for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Curtis Hixon Park. This festivity coincides with the Rough Riders’ decision to move their annual parade from Ybor to downtown.

Other events scheduled for this week include the Florida State Thespians gathering, Pied Piper’s XOXO Carnival at Armature Works featuring various rides and artists, and the Molten Florida Pre-Qualifier volleyball tournament. Additionally, comedian Tom Segura will perform at Amalie Arena and multiple St. Patrick’s Day events are planned.

To manage the anticipated foot traffic, visitors are encouraged to arrive early and consider alternative transportation options such as using the TECO streetcar, DASH service, or e-bike and electric scooter rentals. The city also advises caution while driving in downtown, as law enforcement will be vigilant against driving under the influence.

Overall, visitors should plan ahead and stay informed about the various events happening in downtown Tampa to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Remember to embrace the festive spirit while also being mindful of the potential traffic challenges during this bustling weekend in the city.
