SUV flipping on Highway 101 in Gaviota injures five people after hitting large rocks

Late Saturday night, a sports utility vehicle traveling on Highway 101 in Gaviota, California, flipped over after colliding with large rocks, resulting in injuries to five individuals inside. The incident occurred as the SUV was heading northbound on HWY 101 towards the Gaviota Tunnel, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The occupants of the vehicle, all adults comprising two males and three females, were able to escape the SUV and sustain minor to moderate injuries. They were promptly transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for medical treatment by two ambulances. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 10:44 p.m.

In addition to the SUV accident, the rocks that fell onto HWY 101 caused damage to another vehicle, although no injuries were reported. To clear the road of debris, one lane was closed by the California Department of Transportation and the California Highway Patrol.
