Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg seeks limited gag order on Trump in hush money case

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has requested a limited gag order on former President Donald Trump in relation to his ongoing hush money case. The case involves allegations of falsifying business records related to payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Prosecutors argued that Trump’s history of attacking adversaries, including those involved in his other legal cases, warranted the need for a gag order. The trial for Trump’s hush money case is set to begin on March 25, with prosecutors seeking a similar order to limit prejudicial statements by the defendant.

The motion for the gag order highlighted an increase in threats against DA Bragg after Trump’s social media attacks. The NYPD logged numerous threats against Bragg and his office, prompting the need for protective measures.

Additionally, prosecutors want the judge to allow the “Access Hollywood” tape to be played in court, citing its relevance to Trump’s motives in the hush money payment. Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, has criticized the DA and witnesses involved in the case.

Prosecutors also aim to restrict the defense from discussing the credibility of witnesses, including Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen. They believe such measures are necessary to ensure a fair trial and protect the integrity of the proceedings.

Despite pushback from Trump’s campaign spokesman, the prosecutors emphasize that the gag order is crucial in maintaining the trial’s fairness. They also seek a protective order to prevent the disclosure of juror names to anyone other than Trump and his legal team.

This request for a gag order is part of the ongoing legal battle between Trump and the Manhattan DA’s office regarding the hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election. As the trial unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring justice is served and the truth is revealed.
