The second superspeedway race of the Cup Series season concluded at Atlanta Motor Speedway, with Daniel Suarez emerging victorious in his first Cup win on an oval track since Sonoma in 2022. Suarez, driving the No. 99 Chevrolet, clinched a playoff spot after dominating the final restart of the race, which followed an 11-minute and 25-second red flag delay.
In a race that saw a record-breaking 48 lead changes, Suarez’s victory marked a significant milestone at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The event featured 14 different leaders, continuing a trend of more than a dozen leaders in the past five races at the speedway. Notably, 22 cars finished on the lead lap, with the race marred by 10 cautions, including eight for on-track incidents and eight DNFs.
The race’s first major wreck occurred on Lap 2, triggering a chain reaction that involved 16 cars, including Suarez’s No. 99. Despite the setback, Suarez persevered and ultimately secured the win. In the overall Cup standings, Kyle Busch leads the pack with a one-point advantage over William Byron and Austin Cindric, while Suarez sits in seventh place, trailing Busch by 13 points.
Looking ahead, the Cup season continues with the teams heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 3, for the first intermediate track race of the season. Stay tuned for more thrilling action as the drivers battle it out for supremacy on the track.
