A horse was found galloping along the shoulder of I-95 in Philadelphia early Tuesday morning, and a video of the surreal sight was captured by Angelo Palmer as he was heading to work around 4:45 a.m. Palmer leaned out of the window of a shuttle bus to film the horse’s graceful trot along the highway.
According to Philadelphia police, the horse was first reported on Kelly Drive and then made its way onto I-676 before reaching I-95 north. The Pennsylvania State Police worked to rescue the horse and eventually found it off the highway in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, tied up with a police cruiser nearby.
The horse belonged to the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to horsemanship in the city’s Strawberry Mansion section. A spokesperson for the club mentioned that the horse had escaped from their stable, although the stables and stalls were at last check locked. The club suspects vandalism as a possible reason and plans to add cameras for security.
The horse was rescued off the Allegheny exit in Port Richmond by Wayne Bond, a supporter of the club. Now, the horse is resting at its stable on Fletcher Street in Strawberry Mansion after being taken to the vet.
The horse’s escapade inspired a lighthearted tweet from Philadelphia police and also caught the attention of the local community, with kids from the Riding Club contemplating naming the horse “I-95.”
