Becky Bakes, a small Business run by mother-daughter duo Becky Waibel and Emily Atnip, was recently awarded the Small Business of the Year for 2024 in New Ulm. The selection was made during the annual Chamber meeting. Gag Sheet Metal (GSM) also received the honor of Large Business of the Year.
Chamber members had the opportunity to vote for the businesses of the year, with GSM and Becky Bakes coming out on top. The nominees also included J&R Schugel, Gutes Essen, and Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes. Businesses were nominated based on their Chamber involvement, community involvement, and economic impact.
Becky Bakes, located at 213 S. Minnesota Street, is a bakery operated by Waibel and Atnip. The duo was thrilled to receive the award, and after the announcement, Waibel expressed pride in their business and gratitude to the New Ulm community.
GSM, founded in 1904 by George Gag, was represented at the event by John Gag, who mentioned feeling like a small company despite their significant impact on the community. He emphasized their commitment to exceptional customer service and their role in bringing business to the area.
