The West Texas A&M University’s School of Music’s Symphonic Band and Chorale have been selected to perform at the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio. Before their TMEA appearance, the ensembles will perform a free concert on Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on WT’s Canyon campus. The concert is free, but tickets are required and can be obtained by visiting showtix4u.com/event-details/80359.
The concert series will feature a variety of instruments, including piano, harp, violin, voice, saxophone, and more. The aim of the series is to bring hope and joy to audience members, as well as nurture the Valentine spirit. The concert series will continue through April 2, with performances by other musical guests.
Additionally, on Feb. 6, West Texas A&M University will host a Distinguished Lecture Series led by influential Latina poets, Janel Pineda and Sara Uribe, who will present “Dreaming America through Latinx Poetry.” The event will include a discussion of writing and poetry, as well as a poetry reading, both of which are free and open to the public.
On Feb. 8, the West Texas A&M University Theatre will stage the classic musical “She Loves Me” in the Happy State Bank Studio Theatre on WT’s Canyon campus.
Lastly, Gospel music legend Bill Gaither will be bringing his Moments To Remember Tour to Amarillo’s Civic Center Auditorium on Feb. 24. This event is also expected to draw a large crowd and tickets are on sale at gaither.com or panhandletickets.com.
