Green Acres Mall Enhances Entertainment Offerings with $100-Million Revamp
The Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, New York, is undergoing a significant transformation to attract more high-end stores and enhance its entertainment options. The $100-million revamp, set to be completed by late 2024 or early 2025, will bring new indoor family entertainment venues and exciting changes to the shopping center and its adjacent spaces.
Franchisee Wisam “Sammy” Assaedi has announced plans to open Launch Family Entertainment, a 34,181-square-foot venue featuring bowling, trampolines, an arcade, a ninja warrior course, and food. Additionally, the family-friendly Chuck E. Cheese will be opening in a 12,889-square-foot space at Green Acres Commons in February.
These developments are part of the mall’s efforts to diversify its tenant lineup and bring in more entertainment and experiential uses, according to Eric Bunyan, senior vice president of leasing at The Macerich Co., the real estate investment trust that owns the mall and adjacent shopping center.
The Green Acres location of Launch Family Entertainment is expected to generate significant foot traffic, building on the success of its franchises in other states. The facility will occupy space previously occupied by the discount retailer Shoppers World, signaling a shift in the mall’s offerings to prioritize entertainment and experiential attractions.
In addition to its indoor entertainment offerings, Green Acres Mall is undergoing a broader redevelopment effort that includes the addition of an 80,000-square-foot ShopRite supermarket and the demolition of former Sears and Sears Auto stores. The overall plan is estimated to cost between $100 million and $115 million and is aimed at making the mall more competitive in today’s retail environment.
The Green Acres Mall has a rich history, having been built in 1956 and later acquired by The Macerich Co. in 2013. The addition of Green Acres Commons in 2016 further expanded the shopping center’s offerings, making it a significant retail destination in Valley Stream.
As the redevelopment plans move forward, the transformation of Green Acres Mall promises to bring new energy and experiences to the local community, positioning it for continued success in the evolving retail landscape.
