New Snow and Ice Treatment Technology Implemented in Central Ohio Cities
Two cities in central Ohio are taking a whole new approach to snow and ice treatment this winter with the implementation of cutting-edge technology just in time for the first significant snowfall of the season. One of the cities leading the charge is Worthington, where a miniature roadway information system from Frost Solutions has been installed on High Street, one of the most heavily traveled roads in the city and a top priority for the service and engineering department.
The new camera system provides a panoramic view of the street and collects data on air temperature, surface temperature, dew point, wind speed, and direction. This valuable information allows the department to make informed decisions about where to prioritize staff, what type of salt treatment to use on the roadways, and when to call in extra staff if needed to keep up with changing roadway conditions.
Service and Engineering Director John Moorhead emphasized the benefits of this advanced technology, stating that it allows the city to refine its snow and ice control efforts to provide the best possible services for citizens traveling through Worthington. Additionally, the cameras can be used year-round to monitor other conditions, such as rising water levels in nearby creeks.
Dublin, another city in central Ohio, has also implemented similar technology with the use of Vue Robotics cameras placed around the city to monitor road conditions and make informed decisions about where additional resources are needed.
The implementation of this new technology represents a significant advancement in snow and ice treatment, providing cities with the ability to proactively address changing weather conditions and ensure the safety and convenience of their residents. As cities continue to invest in these innovative solutions, the efficiency and effectiveness of winter maintenance operations are expected to greatly improve.
Historically, snow and ice treatment in central Ohio has been a seasonal challenge for cities, requiring significant resources and manpower to keep roadways clear and safe for residents. The introduction of advanced camera systems and data collection technology represents a major leap forward in the approach to winter maintenance, allowing cities to more effectively manage resources and respond to changing weather conditions.
As Worthington and other cities in central Ohio continue to implement this new technology, residents can expect to see improved snow and ice control services, resulting in safer and more convenient travel throughout the winter months.
