Westmoreland County in Pennsylvania is bracing for heavy snowfall, with the eastern part of the county expected to be particularly affected. The roads are currently passable but caution is advised for those venturing out.
In Murrysville, light snowfall has already made driving conditions hazardous, prompting one driver to advise others to “slow down, make sure you have brand new tires,” and to “take it easy, watch everybody else.”
Further east in New Alexandria, Route 22 has been covered with snow, although it remains slushy rather than icy, according to Randy Smith of Johnstown.
Local agencies and private contractors have been working tirelessly to clear the roads, with PennDOT and various contractors spreading anti-skid on the blacktop and employing large trucks with snow plows and salt.
This diligent effort to keep the roads clear is a necessity in Westmoreland County, which has a history of severe winter weather. The county has been hit by numerous snowstorms over the years, including a particularly intense storm in 1993 that left communities buried under several feet of snow. Local authorities have since made significant investments in snow removal equipment and have established robust procedures for dealing with winter weather emergencies.
As the snowy conditions persist, residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on any developments.
