The US launches air strikes on Houthis amid Israel-Hamas conflict and Gaza crisis

Israeli forces kill three Palestinians in attack on West Bank settlement

Israeli forces shot and killed three Palestinians who attacked an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed. According to the IDF, all three attackers were members of the militant organization Hamas.

The incident occurred near the city of Hebron on Friday evening when the attackers opened fire on Israeli soldiers patrolling near the Adora settlement, the IDF reported. One Israeli man was treated in hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.

The IDF also shared a photo showing an M-16 rifle, knives, and other weapons that were reportedly found on the gunmen.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the three individuals killed as Ismail Jahisha, 19, Mohammad Jahisha, 17, and Uday Jahisha, 15.

In response to the attack, Hamas released a statement expressing solidarity with the attackers and urging “freedom fighters to continue clashing with the enemy.”

This incident comes amidst rising violence in the West Bank following recent attacks by Hamas and an Israeli offensive in Gaza. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported a sharp increase in violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, making 2023 the deadliest year for Palestinians in the region since 2005.

Historic Background:
The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has a long and complex history, dating back to the mid-20th century and characterized by territorial disputes, violence, and political tension. The West Bank, in particular, has been a focal point of the conflict, with ongoing disputes over land, settlements, and security. These factors have contributed to a cycle of violence and unrest, with both sides experiencing significant casualties and loss of life.

In conclusion, the recent attack on the Adora settlement underscores the ongoing strife in the region and the challenges faced by both Israeli forces and Palestinians. The incident adds to the long history of conflict and underscores the urgent need for lasting peace and stability in the region.
