Beware of Scam Facebook Page Impersonating Denver International Airport
Denver International Airport has issued a warning about a fraudulent Facebook page posing as the airport and claiming to sell lost luggage for $10. The page, named Dеnvеr Airроrt, has been targeting users with sponsored ads and falsely representing itself as a thrift and consignment store.
The airport has made it clear that the page is not affiliated with DEN in any way. According to a spokesperson, the airport does not sell lost luggage, and decisions regarding lost and unclaimed baggage are made by individual airlines, not the airport.
The scam page has been promoting suitcases with baggage for just $9.95, alleging that the luggage has been stored at DIA for more than six months. Despite the warning from the airport, the page has managed to accumulate over 1,100 reviews in a short amount of time, giving it an almost five-star rating, despite having only seven page likes.
The fraudulent page has also prompted skeptical comments from users, with one individual describing the process of ordering from the page and sharing their purchase experience. The page’s profile picture, uploaded on Wednesday morning, has quickly attracted attention and engagement, even though the associated email and phone number have proven to be non-functional.
This scam is not unique to DIA, as similar phishing attempts have been reported related to Singapore Airlines. The Federal Trade Commission has reported billions of dollars in fraud losses via social media, with the most frequently reported fraud loss originating from purchases made through social media advertisements, particularly on Facebook and Instagram.
