Police are investigating a Christmas Day swatting call made on Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home

A Christmas Day swatting incident at the residence of Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in Rome, Georgia is under investigation. Authorities received a call through the suicide prevention hotline from a man claiming to have shot his girlfriend at Greene’s Georgia address and threatening to kill himself. Despite being alerted, officers found no cause for concern at the home. Swatting is a dangerous prank that leads authorities to believe a crime is in progress, prompting a forceful response.

This incident is not an isolated one, as Rep. Brandon Williams also reported being swatted on Christmas Day. The response from law enforcement was swift, and both incidents are currently being investigated.

This is not the first time Greene has been targeted, as similar incidents have occurred in the past, highlighting the growing concern around the safety of politicians and the use of swatting as a dangerous form of harassment.

Despite her controversial and divisive public image, it is unacceptable for any public figure to be subjected to such potentially life-threatening hoaxes. The incident adds to the ongoing debate about the safety and security of elected officials and the need for measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The safety of those serving their communities should be a top priority for law enforcement and officials at all levels of government.

CNN’s Melanie Zanona, Manu Raju, and Annie Grayer contributed to this report.
