On Tuesday, Zohaib Dhanani, vice president of the Texas- based fast-food restaurant Dhanani Group, testified in a federal court about a phone call with then-Alderman Ed Burke. Dhanani told the jury that he was surprised after the meeting with Burke when the alderman brought up property tax representation alongside expediting permits for a renovation of one of their Burger King outlets. Dhanani, who was also told to attend a fundraiser for a mayoral candidate, testified that the entire experience was unusual. His father’s company is one of four main allegations in the racketeering indictment against Burke. A lawyer for Burke and an attorney for Peter Andrews Jr. questioned Dhanani about whether their actions caused any loss or delays.
