A mental Health therapist in Palm Beach County is addressing the emotional trauma experienced by both children and adults in the community following the tragic murder of Jamie Felix, a beloved teacher and mother from Port St. Lucie. The 45-year-old Jamie Felix was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Ray Felix, outside a West Palm Beach motel. This heartbreaking incident occurred in front of their 17-year-old and 10-year-old sons, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
Mike Jachles, the public information officer for the West Palm Beach Police Department, highlighted the long-term effects of such a traumatic event on the family and especially the children. In response to this tragedy, St. Lucie Public Schools has arranged for grief counselors to be present at Manatee K-8 academy, where Jamie Felix was known for teaching 8th-grade math.
Ezsa Allen, a mental health therapist with Social Age Counseling, emphasized the importance of seeking help from grief counselors, even if individuals believe they may not need it initially. Allen explained how talk therapy can aid children in processing their emotions and navigating the stages of grief following Jamie Felix’s murder. She acknowledged that grief manifests differently in each individual and at various times in their lives.
Allen underscored the effectiveness of talk therapy in helping individuals understand their emotions and develop coping mechanisms to handle grief and trauma. She recommended immediate therapy for the two children who witnessed their mother’s tragic death and emphasized the significance of building a strong support system for them.
Grief is a persistent emotion that requires learning to cope with the trauma one has experienced. Allen encouraged the affected individuals to navigate their healing process and seek support as they come to terms with this tragedy.
