Gary Wilson has secured a spot in the Welsh Open final and is set to face off against Martin O’Donnell this Sunday. Wilson managed to hold on to beat John Higgins 6-4, including a 147 break, to secure victory in Llandudno.
Wilson, a five-time winner, led 5-1 before Higgins made a comeback, winning three consecutive frames. However, Wilson sealed the win with a break of 73.
In the other semi-final, O’Donnell clinched the win in the deciding frame with a terrific break of 126 against Elliot Slessor.
The 199th maximum break in snooker history was achieved by Wilson, who is the 13th player to reach this milestone.
Higgins praised Wilson’s early form, describing it as “deadly” and “incredible” after Wilson made two consecutive century breaks.
O’Donnell, on the other hand, showed great composure in his semi-final, securing a spot in his first ranking final after beating Slessor.
This thrilling final is set to take place at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on Sunday, 17 February 2024.
